Alternative therapies can play a part in helping to enhance fertility. The benefits they bring are generally interlinked to helping reduce tension and stress and to paying attention to diet, in order to ensure that both the partners are healthy and relaxed.

Autogenic training

Invented by Johannes Schultz in the I920s, autogenic training is a form of relaxation therapy in which you use your mind to relax and reduce strain in the body. It is composed of a sequence of 6 exercises that are carried out progressively. During each exercise, you concentrate upon a specific phrase so as to gain perception of your body. The aim is to assume control of your breathing, heartbeat, your inner organs and your intelligence so you can become completely relaxed at any point. By focussing on relaxing phrases and images, it teaches you to retort positively to oral and visible cues.

As with many sorts of alternative care, autogenic coaching should really only be practised under the direction of an approved specialist It could be perilous if used wrongly, or in the wrong Circumstances. It could cause emotional problems and should not be utilized by folk with psychological disorders, or those with certain medical conditions, eg diabetes, heart conditions, glaucoma or high or low blood pressure. Consult your doctor before trying this therapy.

Aromatherapy

In this preferred form of therapy, essential oils are removed from plants and are employed in other ways (vaporisation, massage, showering) to help reduce strain. It is also thought that they may help to control women’s fertility cycles. A professional therapist must be consulted because some essential oils should not be used during pregnancy.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture can improve the success rate of in vitro fertilization. So why don’t you natural fertilization, too? A study carried out in Germany has shown that women having IVF treatment mixed with acupuncture sessions have gone up their chances of falling pregnant by 50 per cent, and have reduced the time they must wait before it occurs. Although it isn’t yet known why this happens, there is good reason to believe that acupuncture generally improves fertility, even for women who have not had recourse to ART

In the German study, scientists separated 160 women into 2 groups: 80 had the conventional IVF treatment, while the other 80 profited from an acupuncture session before and after the transfer of the embryo into the uterus. In this example, needles were placed at points that were supposed to relax the uterus, but an acupuncturist could also excite certain points in order to improve hormonal balance.
